Hard cross training day

Yesterday was supposed to be a mellow cross training day, especially after my first 12 mile run ever on Saturday but it didn't work out that way. Melissa's cousins were in town for her JD graduation weekend and, since they didn't want to go shopping, I took them to a field next to the tennis courts on recreation drive and we played various soccer drill games for three. The problem is that while I am 31, they are still in high school so they ran rings around me. I remember the days when I used to go to the park in the morning on the weekend and come home at 6pm after a day of football and goofing around. We managed a little over an hour before we broke off to find something to eat and drink.
I woke up this morning and felt like I had been hit by a truck. It's a good job it was a rest day for me or I may have had to push my training a day. I was surprised because I thought 12 miles would have prepared me well for racing around a short field but kick and chase is very different! 3 miles tomorrow morning so it should be a nice way to ease back into it again before the 6 miler on Wednesday.
