Day off revelations

In addition to my marathon training, I've been reducing my caloric intake to try to lose around 20 pounds in preparation for the wedding and my honeymoon in Greece. This has typically involved soup each lunch time and then something resembling the Healthy Choice meals for dinner.
I came across the nutrition tips on the San Francisco marathon page and discovered that really I should be eating between 2200 and 3000 calories per day! Here is what I ate yesterday:

  • 1/2 cup Oatmeal 150 calories prepared with 1 cup 2% milk 130 calories
  • 2 cups Campbells Savory Chicken and Long Grain Rice Soup 200 calories
  • Starbucks grande latte 260 calories
  • 1/2 cup peanuts 340 calories
  • 2 cups Broccoli 50 calories
  • Health Choice Turkey Breast meal 310 calories
  • Jello pudding 100 calories
  • Cool whip 32 calories

So that adds up to 1572 calories for the day – approximately 1000 short of my daily requirements to sustain my training. I've been feeling okay, maybe a little more hungry than usual but I think I'm going to crank up my intake. I'm already 10 pounds down after 9 weeks of the 18 week training program with the longest runs of my life ahead. If I can sustain 190 pounds for the last 9 weeks at the higher level I can focus on the last 10 pounds post marathon. I would hate to screw up my marathon because I hadn't been eating right!
