Energy Balls for Pennies a Serving

This recipe is by the WalkJogRun recipe blogger, The Kitchen Vixen. This week she created an energy ball recipe that is quick, easy, and healthy…but also extremely inexpensive! Try this energy balls recipe before a workout or for some extra fuel when you're done working out!

Regular exercise requires a constant supply of energy. Sometimes a “little” boost is all you need to take you through your next exercise session. Rich in selenium, potassium, copper, potassium and magnesium plus vitamins C and B-complex in addition to carotenoids and phenolic compounds, the dates in this recipe ensure energy metabolism is working full force and antioxidant protection prevails. With three quarters of their weight coming from fiber, dates balance their sweetness and offer good glycemic control thanks to a little help from the cinnamon in this recipe.

Cinnamon is known for its ability to keep blood sugars on an even keel. The anti-inflammatory-pathway-promoting omega-3 fats from flax seeds and walnuts help to reduce muscle soreness; while satiety enhancing whey protein keeps your portion control in check. One serving is perfect for quick “energy-on-the-go” or eat three to four energy balls at least one hour before your workout to get you through a more intense training session.
