Despite GoDaddy Hacker Attack, WalkJogRun is Secure

Update (Sept. 11, 2012) : It turns out the GoDaddy incident was not due to hacking, but an internal outage.

Yesterday the the hacker group 'Anonymous' launched a massive Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack against GoDaddy, taking down WalkJogRun and a significant number of other websites. Despite this attack, WalkJogRun's privacy and security was not compromised in any way.

The hacker group did not hack WalkJogRun-just GoDaddy. The WalkJogRun website is not hosted through GoDaddy, only the DNS is. When someone types http://www.walkjogrun.net into a browser, their computer contacts the DNS host (GoDaddy) to figure out the IP address of the server. It sends this back to the user's computer which then reaches out behind the scenes to the IP address of the server to request the content it wants. This is basically like a big phone book. Yesterday, the phonebook temporarily vanished.

Since WalkJogRun was down for a significant time yesterday, we wanted to be sure we let our members and customers know that the site and your privacy was never affected by this attack. Thank you for your patience yesterday as GoDaddy worked to restore the issue. As a result of the attack, we have made some infrastructure changes to better protect us in the future. We have also added WalkJogRun to four more, “phonebooks.” If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
