WalkJogRun: Tell us about yourself and how you got started running!
Michael B: I am a 43 year-old attorney and father of three. After several years of sedentary lifestyle, I decided that I wanted to take better care of my health, both for myself and my children. Going to the gym didn't keep my interest long enough. Running was something that I could do outdoors, see new sights, and stay in shape.
WalkJogRun: What helps keep you motivated to run?
Michael B: I think about how good I feel physically and mentally after a long run.
WalkJogRun: Tell us a bit about your racing history and about your training.
Michael B: I'm a fairly new runner. I've done several 5K's in my area and am training for a 10K now. I hope to do a half-marathon after the 10K.
WalkJogRun: How much are you running per week? How many would you like to be running?
Michael B: I try to run 3-4 times a week between 5-6 miles each run. I am trying to increase that distance.
WalkJogRun: What's your favorite distance to run?
Michael B: Right now, between 5-6 miles.
WalkJogRun: What are your running goals?
Michael B: Short-term is a 10K, longer-term is a half-marathon.
WalkJogRun: What are your hobbies outside of running?
Michael B:: Reading historical biographies, following professional hockey and playing with my 3 kids.
WalkJogRun: Do you listen to music while running? If so, what are the top songs on your playlist right now?
Michael B:: Journey, Prince, Billy Joel.
WalkJogRun: What's the best piece of advice you could offer another runner or a newbie runner?
Michael B: Keep going and don't let a slower than expected run get you down. It's only one run and chances are you'll bounce back the next time you go out and run.
