Summer BBQ food by the calories and miles

summer bbq food by calories and miles

Few things say “summer” more to me than barbecues. A mojito in my hand and a plate piled high with macaroni salad, corn on the cob, a burger, and – of course – watermelon.

While I love this summertime tradition, the number of BBQs we attend or throw between Memorial Day and Labor Day sometimes gets out of hand. It’s always a great time with family and friends, but I tend to overdo the food. It’s fine to indulge from time to time, but we’re literally grilling out and celebrating the season every single weekend.

I have a feeling that I’m not the only one who feels this way! Knowing the number of calories in my favorite BBQ and picnic foods – and the number of miles I’ll need to run them off – will hopefully help me keep my appetite in check this summer.

What’s your favorite warm weather food? I love macaroni salad so much that I’d rather run a few extra miles than pass over the dish this summer!

*Miles you need to run to burn off the food. Calories based on a 160 lbs. person running an average pace of 10:00 minute miles (which equals about 120 calories burned per mile). If you weigh less or run slower, you’ll need to run a longer distance to burn off the calories. If you weigh more or run faster, you can run fewer miles to run off the dishes.
